Singles Awareness Day 15/2/17

“why there were so many single women in their thirties?”
“I don’t know…I suppose it doesn’t help that underneath our
clothes our entire bodies are covered in scales”!! Is our
culture thankfully changing that we embrace and appreciate
our independence and self-sufficiency, rather than feeling a lone
alien in a world of “smug” couples?
According to the National Office for Statistics there are now 17 million men and women in the UK who are single and more and more are making a choice to be on their own.

Women today have more choice and flexibility than perhaps
a generation ago and, although there is still a male/female split in
pay, women can support themselves and perhaps children and
they don’t have to rely on a partner to support them
financially. Single parenting also doesn’t have the stigma attached
to it than it did 30/40 years ago thankfully and choosing to bring up
a child on your own without having a man in your life is a lifestyle choice for plenty of women.
Being single opens up many opportunities and allows you to
do things independently, which you may be limited to if in a
couple, and so not held back by as many responsibilities. After all,
you don’t need a partner to go on holiday with or go out for
dinner with and if you decide to leave the job that you hate to go travelling for 6 months, you can!

Helen Fielding gave great advice “You don’t need to settle
for someone who isn’t right just to keep life afloat”. So be proud
of who you are as you never need a partner to make an
entrance, you can do it yourself in style and with confidence.
The main thing is to be happy, whether that is being in a
relationship or being single, grasp life and enjoy it!
