or other soft cuddly animal today! Most of us have a favourite toy that has sentimental value that
you can’t bear (excuse the pun) to throw away as it reminds you of your childhood.
So why do we have such an affection for cuddly toys? They are the silent companion that you can talk
to about anything and offer ‘protection’ and friendship during childhood and later on in adulthood
provide a link between the two creating happy memories of a time that was carefree and free of
inhibitions or worries. During teenager years, the cuddly toy doesn’t appear ‘cool’ and a clear out may
occur although the favourite toy inevitably gets to stay, which is interesting as it can still cause the
owner to talk about and recall special stories about it and instantly create a feeling of calmness.

a hormone called Oxytocin which produces feel good feelings
and helps to sooth you and reduce stress levels because
Cortisol (stress hormone) is lowered which in turn lowers
blood pressure and the heartbeat and generally installs a
feeling of calm.
Teddy bears are often given to trauma
victims young or old as they promote self soothing behaviour
as it raises levels of Oxytocin.
So, don’t feel embarrassed release your inner child and get hugging!
