
It’s beneficial to go to bed feeling calm and happy so reading something funny or light hearted helps to go to bed in a good mood and forget anything that has been playing on your mind. That’s not to say that you can’t read something more taxing but it is best not to over stimulate the mind before bed as this can cause a disturbed night. If however you are in the middle of a good novel and reading before bed is the only time you can pick up the book, then putting it down when you start to feel sleepy and reading something lighter for 10 minutes before switching off the light will help you feel calmer and more relaxed.
When we laugh at something funny it helps our brain to release endorphins which help us feel happier, laughter is also good for the heart, boosts the immune system and is good for mental wellbeing.
