Nutrition & Diet Advice for Weight Loss

Tips of how to get into the right mindset for weight loss?

  1. Whatever you do never think about “going on a diet” as once you think this your mind automatically panics and craves food. It’s about a change in lifestyle. That’s why it’s important to sort the mind out first and then I can help with the nutrition and best foods to help you.
  2. I find it’s important to stop thinking that eating healthily is boring, as there is nothing futher from the truth. Do you class curries, bolognaise, roast dinners, etc as boring? No – If you cook them yourselves you can be in control of what you cook and I can help you with this
  3. Understand what kind of Eater you are? Are you a Feaster, a Constant Craver or an Emotional Eater?
  4. Food quantity – I am a farmer’s daughter who is a real foody and any holiday or social life I have tends to be based around food, as well as activities. I have always been able to eat “big” meals from a young age, ‘out-eating’ most of the rugby team at university! And I still now need to know I am going to have a filling meal at some point in the day, else my mind goes into panic mode.  However, although I eat a big meal once a day, the difference is that I never snack, I prepare my own meals (and yes I do work full time hours and have a child) so meals have to be quick and easy, and I never forbid myself anything in order to stop the rebellious nature of my mind craving that forbidden food. Plus my other 2 meals are modest but just knowing I will be able to eat a good, filling meal at some point relaxes my mind enabling me to eat less the rest of the day. This is what helps me with my beliefs about food and eating. The trick is to find yours and adjust how and what you eat accordingly.

So what is the root of your beliefs about food and Eating Type that helps motivate you practically and physically to reduce your food intake, as we are all different?
My job is to tap into this and work round this when advising you on your meal planing. This is where the NLP, Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy (TM) work allows us to get to the bottom of your beliefs stopping you reach your weight loss goals as well as providing sound scientific Nutrition advice and methods to allow you to become that slimmer, healthier you.

So how can I help you?

Interpretation of the science related to the diets out there

Often someone’s diet (in the true sense of the word, that is, the food eaten) often just needs to be tweaked, as many small changes can make a huge difference. But there are many faddy diets around and change depending on the fashion and the Media exposure. The ones around at the moment include the 5:2 Fasting Diet, Paleolithic Diet, GI Diet, High Protein Diet and many more. I have spent time understanding these and fortunate to listen to these researchers, at nutrition conferences, that have discovered these diets or looked into their associated medical benefits & potential health risks, enabling me to give you a more informative and balanced look at each of the diets compared to the media view!!!

For example Dr Atkins swore that his Diet was safe to eat for long term health, with no evidence to say this, however strong research now shows, that high protein (& low carb) diets can help people diet but should not be used for longer than 8 weeks as can have huge health implications.

The Fasting Diet stumbled upon by Dr Michelle Harvie, whilst researching the best diets for breast cancer patients, has been adopted by many authors including Michael Moseley who called in the 5:2 Diet among others. Sadly the research has been adapted away from the evidence, for example the fasting days were based on 650kcals and not the 500Kcals recommended in most versions, plus many of the versions say you can eat what you like on the other 5 non-fasting days. This is untrue and would be counterproductive as the research was based on dieters eating less than 2000kcals on those days and infact the subjects in the study actually ate even less, giving such good weight loss results.

“Nicky helped me change my mindset, balance my diet and get me to understand what I am actually eating. We then tweaked the foods I currently eat with similar alternatives that are lower in calories and healthier for me. In fact I feel like I am eating more in some cases and feel fuller than I used to. As Nicky says “Small changes do make a huge difference”. I managed to meet my target weight after 2 months, which I was thrilled about. Thank you Nicky”
